Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly Parton founded her Imagination Library in her home county in Tennessee in 1995. The program mails free, high-quality books to children from birth until age 5, regardless of family income.
Today, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library mails over 1 million free books each month to children around the world!
“When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor or an inventor or a minister. Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and singer.
The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world.” *
Literacy Volunteers of Washington County participates in the Imagination Library Program. Since 2006, we’ve had over 1,250 kids graduate meaning they received a free age appropriate book in the mail every month, personally addressed to them, until they reached age 5.
If you’d like to enroll a child in the program, please download this form, fill it out, and mail it in.
